Benefits of E-Dermatology?
E-Dermatology is a quick and convenient way to consult a specialist allowing rapid turnaround for diagnosis and management of common skin conditions. It is also very efficient and cost effective as you do not have to take time off work to be present for an appointment or travel to clinic. Anyone can access E-Dermatology but it is most suited to patients who live in rural areas or far from specialist clinics, patients who have difficulty making in-person appointments or patients with day care or work responsibilities.

What is the time frame for E-Dermatology?
I aim to respond within 3 days but you should allow up to 5 days to receive a reply. During peak times, there is a high demand on the service which can cause delays. Sometimes there can be technical difficulties which can cause a delay that prevents a case from being submitted or reviewed. If you have not received a reply after 5 days then please contact me at sbmedicaladmin@icloud.com
What are the limitations of E-Dermatology?
Not all conditions are suitable for E-Dermatology. Some conditions cannot be safely dealt with E-Dermatology and will require a face to face consultation. My assessment is based on the information provided by you and within the constraints of an electronic consultation. If after reviewing your case (Questionnaire and Photos) I feel E-Dermatology is not safe for you then your fee will be refunded. You will be charged £50 administrative fee (this covers my time required to review your case and arrange a refund).
How to make most of the E-Dermatology service
A problem well stated is a problem half solved. If you can describe your problem in detail then I can help you find a cause and possible solutions to the problem. Please do not rush through the questions and take your time answering as detailed and accurate history is the most important step in establishing a diagnosis and choosing the best treatment. Please make sure images are not blurred or out of focus.
What are potential outcomes following a E-Dermatology consultation?
The outcome of your E-Dermatology consultation could be any of the following:
1. If I have all the information necessary for me to make a safe and accurate assessment then I will email you a consultation report with a diagnosis (or differential diagnosis) and outcome. This will include a treatment plan (if required) along with recommendations. If a prescription is needed, I will send you a request to provide me with information about your name, date of birth and address. I will then post the prescription to your home address or pharmacy of your choice.
2. Face to Face or Telephone/Video Consultation – If, following an E-Dermatology consultation, it is deemed necessary to speak to you or see you in person then a remote or face to face appointment will be arranged. Fee for a video consultation is £200 and for a face to face consultation is £250.
3. Book directly for skin surgery – You will be sent patient information leaflet about skin surgery. Please have a look at fee section for more information about the surgical fee
4. If, after reviewing your case (Questionnaire and Photos), I feel E-Dermatology is not suitable for you then then your fee will be refunded. You will be charged £50 fee for doctors time to review your case and time required to arrange refund.
5. Referral – I may recommend onward referral to another specialist either in the private sector or via your GP offering you choices of local services.
Can I use E-Dermatology to get my moles and lesions checked?
Yes. Some moles and lesions can be safely assessed looking at the images only but I strongly recommend you attend for a face to face consultation and dermoscopy for moles and lesions. E-Dermatology has a built in questionnaire which will allow me to assess your risk factors for skin cancer and more detailed description about onset and evolution of the mole or lesion in question. I will review the submitted images and inform you if the lesion or mole can be safely assessed as benign or whether it requires dermoscopy. If dermoscopy is required then you will need to attend for a face to face consultation and pay the relevant follow up consultation fee.

If you decide to go on Isotretinoin/Roaccutane then you will need to attend for a face to face consultation along with copy of blood test results. Please note that all females of child bearing age will need to be on 2 forms of effective contraception starting one month before isotretinoin/roaccutane can be initiated.
